Escoamento de fluidos não-Newtonianos através de meios porosos desordenados tridimensionais

Resumo: Investigamos o escoamento de diferentes tipos de fluidos não-Newtonianos através de meios porosos desordenados tridimensionais por meio de simulação numérica diretas das equações de continuidade e transporte de quantidade de movimento. Os nossos resultados para fluidos com reologia descrita por uma lei de potência indicam que o escoamento, quando quantificado em termos de uma permeabilidade devidamente especificada e um número de Reynolds modificado, pode ser descrito com sucesso por uma única curva, ou seja, por um comportamento universal. Tal curva cobre um largo espectro de condições físico-químicas e operacionais (números de Reynolds), sendo também válida para diferentes expoentes da lei de potência reológica. Em seguida, estudamos o escoamento em meios porosos de fluidos de Bingham descritos em termos do modelo de Herschel-Bulkley. Neste caso, nossas simulações revelam que as relações intrínsecas entre (i) a característica desordenada do espaço de poros, (ii) as propriedades reológicas do fluido, e (iii) os efeitos inerciais presentes no escoamento, podem resultar em um aumento substancial da condutância hidráulica macroscópica do sistema operando em números de Reynolds intermediários. Esta condição anômala de “transporte facilitado” representa um aspecto surpreendente associado ao escoamento de fluidos através de materiais porosos.
